About 3 or 4 nights a week I go to the Shell service station near my place. I don't know if it is a new policy by Shell or the fellow behind the counter (Raj) has adopted his own operating basis but he gives the best service I have ever experienced in retail.

Business Tips For Great Success
After starting in agricultural sales in 1977 servicing farmers, Jeff soon caught the sales "bug" and learnt that the most important business function was to effectively market ones wares.
After four years in the industry he went on a discovery of becoming more effective in his pursuits and until 1995 he worked in the marketing side of the life improvement industry, learning a lot about people, as well as marketing. Whilst still continuing along this line, he then ventured into the publishing industry.
He soon learnt he had a knack of markedly increasing the custom of the businesses he was involved in, whilst working in different parts of Australia. He then decided to use his knowledge in a more broad sense to help the "masses" in business.

Sometimes we can get down on ourselves and our business and feel we are not successful, or at least not as successful as we feel we ought to be.
What are the keys to having a successful business and staying in business for a long time?
There are many things that are important and I will name 9 of them and they all coincidentally start with the letter ''c''. Of course, you could probably think of a lot more but these are key ones that if applied, will hold you in good stead.
I heard a great analogy the other day in relation to a business owner and a duck. A duck appears to be smoothly gliding through the water but if you could look under the water you would find that it is frantically flapping it’s legs and webbed feet. I have never met too many business owners who are not like that either. You can walk into most businesses and it seems like every thing is running smoothly and they appear very profitable etc., but the reality is many businesses are one or two disasters away from going broke and the owner is working his ass off to keep the business afloat!
Hope you had a great vacation and you are all "locked and loaded" for a great 2015. I went to Alice Springs in the middle of Australia in the Outback and now feel refreshed and ready to take on 2015.
Here are some top tips for you to help have a great and super productive year:
Well, we are fast winding down to XMAS and a new year. It seems like time is going by quicker each year, doesn't it?
I have spoken to hundreds of business owners and managers this year and I really respect these people as it takes guts to run a business in an increasingly tough market and also to deal with employees, customers, suppliers, external salespeople, tax agents, governments etc.
A lot of business people are unaware of where the laws, customs and even terminology of business comes from. By knowing this information it will definitely help you create an even better business because the more you know how business works, the more effective will be your business, of course. This information is so ASTOUNDING in fact that you may not believe it, but it is true. It certainly is the best post to date that I have done on this site, too. So here it is.
All week I have been talking to business owners and about one in three or four of them have told me how quiet things are and the usual ‘’no-one has got any money’’ nonsense.
When I asked each one of those business people that were struggling what they were doing on the advertising front they each said they were holding back from doing much advertising because things were so quiet. Go figure!
The other day I saw a nearby specialty cake shop that had only been opened for about a year now, empty and out of business. It is incredible that so many businesses open up and spend a fortune on signage and fitting out a shop and then do next to nothing to market their wares and are gone a year or two later (80% of all businesses go out of business within 5 years of start up).
Just the other day the Prime Minister of Australia announced that the carbon tax that was brought in by the last government a year or so ago has been axed by his government, much to the joy of the Australian people.
This whole thing about man made global warming caused by carbon emmisions is a giant con and the majority of the people of Australia know that and just a quick google of the words "Agenda 21" or "Climategate Emails" blows Al Gore's fraudelent theories to pieces.
To all the many overseas subscribers and viewers of this site who are not aware of who Joe Hockey is, he is the Treasurer of the current Australian government who recently handed down the toughest Budget in recent Australian history.
Australia was probably the least effected by the 2008 Global Financial Crisis than any other Western country because we are a huge mineral rich country (especially supplying iron ore to the Chinese) and only have a small population of 23 million people to feed, and in fact it is estimated there are well over 80 million kangaroos in Australia, so we humans here are outnumbered by our Skippy friends by 4 to 1!
Things have definitely gotten tougher for some businesses in recent times, especially since the Global Financial Crisis and also the ever growing internet usage that is giving the public the ability to purchase online from anywhere in the world.
One of the most overlooked things for the business person is determining the effectiveness of their advertising.
Most shoppers these days go straight to the internet for their information, so it is vital that your website creates an impact and turns shoppers into buyers.
The fastest growing trend of recent times for retail businesses to greatly expand their sales from their website traffic is to put a short profile/product video on their home page (20-30% extra sales on average are coming from doing this, per stats!).
In the last week I came across two destructive employees of a sporting club I contacted.
This a club that often promotes it only gets the ''best'' people into it's organization, and in the main this is correct and it is a great club.
I like to go out of my way to support the community as many people do, and as you can see from some previous posts I am a huge fan of beneficial quotes by successful people, as they are truly life changing.
Factually, a lack of marketing is the major reason why businesses go broke. So here are some marketing essentials for this year and beyond so you can thrive and prosper..
Nothing stays the same in this world and you just have to look at the Holden announcement to see that, and you will find the only constant there is, is change.
Complacency is one of our great enemies in business and one thing to combat that is to have clear-cut goals (business and personal) mapped out with plans to achieve them.
The prime reason customers come to you is because they want what you offer, but with so much competition (including online) around these days, it's important you don't ''waste'' your customers with shoddy service.
The key of course is to be interested in them and how you can help them in a polite, friendly, professional way.
I just had an associate get a massive six figure offer from someone to buy his online business that he only started from scratch in 2008.
Another old client a few weeks ago told me he has been trying to unsuccessfully sell his long running retail business for some time for a five figure sum and which has a higher turnover and profit margin than the first guy's part-time online business.
I talk to at least 30-40 business owners a week and just over two thirds of them are doing well and the rest are struggling to various degrees.
Upon questioning these 2 groups I found a recurring theme — the business owners that are doing well are big on marketing their business and therefore have realized that in order to get a lot of business and profit they have to spend enough & consistently enough on marketing for this to come about. I also find they have excellent service & are positive upbeat people too (which is part of marketing as well).
With the advent and growing popularity of the internet, more and more people are becoming enlightened about amazing amounts of corruption and abuse of power in major institutions, such as government, religion, banking, the "justice" system etc.
One of Australia's most well known and loved food companies, Spring Gully, earlier this year went into voluntary administration with 11 million dollars in debt, only to get out of it recently.
Most businesses spend a lot on advertising but usually don't know the basics of creating an effective ad and likewise with a lot of ad agencies.
Lately there has been a bit of doom and gloom by some business owners/managers that I have spoken to in recent weeks. The truth is one creates their reality to a great extent by their thoughts.
If their thoughts are positive and they are optimistic business owners/managers who continue to take proactive actions with their business and continue to promote hard, work hard and be friendly and cheerful with their customers and clients, things go well for them, no matter what is happening in politics, the banking sector etc...
